Well, friends, two years have passed and still the sacred duty laid upon me by Providence to chronicle the moral turpitude of the people of Aberystwyth remains unfinished. The task now spans a fifth volume in the series, From Aberystwyth with Love, which appeared in May of this year.

There’s quite a lot in it, including:

An exploration of the dark hinterlands of the human soul.

A plangent disquisition upon the possibility of authenticity and the redemptive power of love.

The role of ice-cream as totemic surrogate of the Earth-mother’s breast.

And a visit to Aberystwyth by...drum roll...God!

It is also the first attempt in the field of contemporary literature to inquire into the the motif of the Promised Land in the history of the Welsh soul. In this case the Shangri-la is a town called Hughesovka which was founded in the last century by Welsh steel magnate John Hughes on the banks of the Don River in the Ukraine. If that were not enough, and it is already a hell of a lot for twelve quid, Louie and Calamity also take the Orient Express and pay a visit to the castle of one V. Tepes, otherwise known as Vlad the Impaler.
